Chapter 17

Grace

“My Lord, my Lady. Welcome home.” Charles greeted us, holding the front door open.

Lucas had met us at the airport with the car and drove us back. He grabbed all my bags out of the car, and Curtis’ one bag.

“Thank you, Charles. How have things been here?” Curtis asked, one hand on my back.

Charles bowed slightly. “Just fine, my Lord. No problems.”

“And the changes I asked for you to make?”

I looked at him, curious what that was. He winked at me.

Charles chuckled softly. “Ready and waiting for your inspection, sir.”

“Good. The Queen needs to eat and rest. Will you bring something up to the room in about an hour, please?” Curtis softly pushed on my back, signaling me to start walking again.

Charles bowed again as we passed. “As you wish, your highness.”

Lucas was already up the stairs, putting my things away. Guess I now knew who moved my things before then. And here I thought it had been Curtis.

“How was the trip, sir?” Lucas asked, walking back out of the closet.

“Perfect. San Diego is thriving, and Mexico was peaceful. I see now why humans enjoy their vacations so much.” He winked at me again and I blushed.

“I see something else is flourishing.” Lucas pointedly looked at my stomach. “I assume that’s why all the bags.”

I scowled at him. “Yes. My stomach grows an inch a day, thanks for pointing that out.”

“Careful, my friend. She is still touchy about that.” Curtis’ warning was weakened by his amusement.

“You may grow bigger every day, my Queen,” Lucas stalked closer, slowly lowering to his knees in front of me, “but you grow more beautiful as well. Very few are strong enough to carry a royal heir. They are the strongest and most powerful creatures out there. You are a unique woman to be able to carry this child, and still be as active as you are.”

Well, crap. Who knew Lucas had it in him?

“Allow me to alleviate your fears, my Lady?”

I nodded, feeling totally out of sorts. Curtis centered behind me, as balance was not a friend of mine these days. This kid was growing so fast, my body never had enough time to adjust to the new weight before gaining more. Lucas gently lifted my leg onto his shoulder, pushing my dress up and my silky boy shorts down. I gripped Curtis’ hands, which were protectively resting on my stomach.

Lucas moved back a few minutes later, smacking his lips. “Thank you, my Queen. As always, it is a pleasure to serve you.”

I laughed quietly at his passionate gratitude. “The pleasure was definitely all mine.”

Lucas stood up again and bowed.

“Have you refilled your pets yet?” Curtis asked.

“Not as of yet. There were more important issues that needed to be handled first. As we spoke of on the phone the other day.”

“What happened?” I asked warily.

“Nothing much, a Nightwalker got a little overzealous in the feeding center. The donor had a silver dagger hidden in her apartment. She stabbed him in the chest rather than let him stab her below.
